Nausicaa celebrates its 20th birthday

Nausicaa celebrates its 20th birthday in 2011! Since it opened on 18 May 1991, the National Sea Centre has been more than just a simple aquarium. It is a unique centre for learning about the marine environment: entertaining, educational and scientific, it is focused mainly on the relationship between Man and the Sea. With giant aquariums, underwater exploration and the very latest technologies to provide a magical, spectacular setting, there’s everything you need to fire the imagination. There’s also everything you need to help you understand and learn: precise explanations, a specialist media library, films, temporary exhibitions, lectures, educational programmes and exhibition activities. The Centre’s role is, above all, to raise public awareness of the need for better management of the oceans and their resources.
The major new feature in 2011 will be an exhibition about the islands. This temporary exhibition has been designed by Nausicaa to take visitors on a magical journey to meet spectacular or unusual animals and take part in multimedia activities that form part of a highly entertaining and educational setting. The exhibition is jointly produced by NAUSICAA, the National Sea Centre in BOULOGNE-SUR-MER, and the Mare Nostrum Aquarium in MONTPELLIER, in partnership with AOSIS (Alliance of the Small Island States).
