Tourism & Disability

label tourisme et handicap

On Thursday 21 March, 2002, Nausicaa was awarded the "Label Tourisme & Handicap" distinction by the French Minister for Tourism, Jacques BRUNHES.

Since it opened in May 1991, Nausicaa, the National Sea Experience Centre located in Boulogne-sur-Mer, has always made a point of offering top-quality service to its visitors, including the 7,000 disabled people who come to the Centre each year.

The reasons for this distinction

Nausicaa is committed to sharing its knowledge with the public and endeavours to make all its displays and exhibitions easily accessible to everyone, and in particular to people with limited mobility. The Centre thus makes sure the design and planning of its premises are adequate, that signage is adapted, and that wheelchairs and audio guides are available. It was for these reasons that on Thursday 21 March, 2002, the French Minister for Tourism, Jacques BRUNHES, presented Guy LENGAGNE, Mayor and Deputy of Boulogne-sur-Mer, and President of Nausicaa, and Philippe VALLETTE, Managing Director of Nausicaa, with the "Label Tourisme & Handicap" distinction.

The French Ministry for Tourism intends to ensure that disabled people, whatever their disabilities, are provided with reliable information regarding the accessibility of tourist sites and facilities.

Not just an honorary award

Nausicaa is committed to a policy of quality which seeks to allow people with disabilities to enjoy their visits as independently as possible.

The distinction was awarded for the quality of the service Nausicaa offers to people with motor, hearing or intellectual deficiencies, as well as for the Centre's commitment to making further adjustments to its premises.

I would like to suggest you add the GPS coordinates of Nausicaa in order that those with Satellite Navigation capabilities can simply program in your location. Suggest you also indicate where the nearest car parking facilities can be found.
