Island stories exhibition

The major new feature in 2011 will be an exhibition about the islands. This temporary exhibition has been designed by Nausicaa to take visitors on a magical journey to meet spectacular or unusual animals and take part in multimedia activities that form part of a highly entertaining and educational setting. The exhibition is jointly produced by NAUSICAA, the National Sea Centre in BOULOGNE-SUR-MER, and the Mare Nostrum Aquarium in MONTPELLIER, in partnership with AOSIS (Alliance of the Small Island States).
Island stories: an exhibition that gives the island people an opportunity to tell their stories

The islands are at the forefront of the current environmental, social and economic challenges and are introducing actions and initiatives that will be solutions for all of us in the future. Mainland populations will be faced with the same problems in the near future and have a great deal to learn from the decisions taken today by the Small Island States, for, like the islands isolated in the Ocean, our planet is a haven of life in space. We are all islanders... Far from listing disasters, this exhibition pays tribute to the islanders and resolutely follows the path of hope by putting forward sustainable solutions for the future of man.

The islands, fragile worlds

The islands are worlds apart, small, vulnerable, and isolated in the Ocean, much like our planet Earth in the infinity of space. The small island states are trying to preserve their independence by exploiting their assets, but they remain particularly vulnerable in the face of natural disasters and climate change.
The islands: sentinels in the face of global warming

Like micro-continents, the islands, and particularly the Island States, focus the problems that concern us all. They act as sentinels of the environment, particularly with regard to the rise in sea levels linked to global warming. Many island states are making considerable efforts to fight against the impact of global warming. Their actions will help to provide a good number of the solutions that will be used by the rest of humanity.
