1 MILLION SIGNATURES to save the Mediterranean
The MED Expedition 2010 / 2013 is a scientific, environmental campaign involving ten European research laboratories. This program, first of its kind in France and Europe, highlights an alarming phenomenon in the Mediterranean : the presence of a quasi-invisible pollution likely to enter food chains - pollution by plastic microdebris.
The first set of analyses made by Ifremer (the French Institute for Marine Research) and the University of Liege (Belgium) estimate s that about 250 billion floating microplastics contaminate the surface of the Mediterranean.
Is the Mediterranean Sea becoming a plastic soupe ingested by fish and even plankton, the base of the whole food chain ?
