Opal Coast: Wimereux beach

If you have chosen to spend your holidays in Wimereux, in Hauts-de-France, on the Opal Coast, you have made the right choice.

Wimereux beach: watersports to suit every taste

In the summer months, the temperature of the sea in Wimereux reaches nearly 20 °C, which means you won't have the impression of swimming in a bowl of soup. And what a joy it is to make the most of the gentle sunshine on the fine sandy beach… Your children will perhaps prefer the stretch of Wimereux beach with pebbles – nothing is more beautiful than a pebble for a child, especially when you stack them up to make a cairn! To really make the most of the beach, don't hesitate to rent one of the pretty beach huts: you'll not only be able to change there, but you'll also be able to leave your things there, which will save you a lot of bother, above all if you have children!

But Wimereux beach has a lot more to offer than swimming (supervised in July and August): the watersports proposed are varied and suitable for every age and taste. In Wimereux, the beach is a kitesurfing and windsurfing hotspot greatly appreciated by watersports enthusiasts. You'll also be able to learn to sail, on a dinghy or a catamaran. The beach's fine sand is perfect for getting a buzz speeding along on a sand yacht.

If you prefer something a bit calmer, try stand-up paddling or canoe-kayaking, or even sea-wading, ideal for strengthening your muscles. You want something even more relaxing? The watersports club proposes a yoga paddle activity, to recharge your batteries close to the elements.

Wimereux, a seaside resort that let's you see the bright side of things

The bright colours of the Belle Époque villas on the seafront in Wimereux are a treat for the eyes. One of the prettiest walks in Wimereux is without doubt the tour of the loveliest houses, with their oh so imaginative names: la Brise Folle, la Romance, le Santerre, la Frégate, Melpomene, le Torpilleur, etc. The owners have taken care to keep the lively colours of the woodwork and façades, which gives the town a dapper look even when the sky is grey. If you like this atmosphere from a different era, why not spend a weekend in Wissant? Another very lovely seaside resort on the Opal Coast.

Wimereux beach, close to some exceptional scenery

We hope you have planned a stay that is long enough to allow you to see everything there's to see in Wimereux. Without even needing your car, you'll be able to see Fort d’Ambleteuse, Fort de la Crèche , or climb up to the top of the Napoléon column in Wimille. From the top of this column you'll have an incredible view over the whole region, from a height of 54 metres. To do this you'll have to deal with the 263 steps that take you up to the platform. From there, you'll be able to admire the lovely landscape of the Slack dunes , whose ever-changing and contrasted geography shelters an amazing flora and fauna.

And if the sky's overcast, what can you do in Wimereux when it's raining? Make the most of the fact the seaside resort is close to Boulogne-sur-Mer to take a dive… into the biggest aquarium in Europe! Nausicaá is both a place to marvel at the marine animals gathered together there, and also a space for raising awareness regarding the dangers facing the marine ecosystems, and of what would happen to our planet if they were destroyed.
