YOUR VISITS ALLOW US TO ACT

Our mission is to raise the public’s awareness of the frailty of the Global Ocean and act to preserve it: our exhibitions and workshops allow everyone to better understand tomorrow’s challenges in a playful, educational and scientific way.
We support the research and species-safeguarding programmes thanks to your visits. Come and admire our 1,600 different species in the largest tank in Europe and act with us in favour of the Oceans!

WE ARE HELPING TO PRESERVE THE CAPE PENGUINS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Vulnerable in the face of the threats raised by human activities and their predators, the Cape Penguins have seen the number of breeding couples fall from 70,000 to fewer than 20,000 in 45 years. Nausicaa supports the SANCCOB association (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) for the conservation and care of oil-covered, injured, sick and orphaned seabirds in South Africa.

  • More than 95,000 seabirds saved since 1968
  • 200 penguins – including 28 in 2019 – cared for and released back to their natural habitat thanks to your donations and visits
  • 20 penguins born at the centre

And for 2020? Our goal:
TO SAVE 100 PENGUINS

RESTORING THE CORAL REEF IN THE MALDIVES

The Maldives coral barrier reef is in great danger.
At the end of the nineties, nearly 90% of the corals were dead.

Nausicaá supports the Reefscapers Foundation which restores the coral reefs using innovative techniques and long-term scientific follow-up.

  • More than 7,000 structures implanted in the lagoons of the Maldives by Reefscapers, that’s to say 500,000 coral colonies since 2005.
  • In 2019, 14 structures implanted at Landaa Giraavaru in the Maldives, that’s to say 700 coral colonies reconstituted thanks to Nausicaá’s sponsorship and endowment fund.
  • Most of the corals present in the aquarium were grown using our propagation techniques.

And for 2020? Our goal:
TO FUND THE IMPLANTATION OF 20 MORE STRUCTURES!

LET’S INNOVATE FOR BLUE AND POSITIVE GROWTH

Nausicaá supports project initiators in the areas of fishing and aquaculture, biotechnologies and energy, not to mention the struggle against pollution. How? By offering its support, creating networks, making resources available to everyone acting in favour of a more reasoned relationship between Mankind and the Oceans.

In 2020, the launch-year for the blue living lab, four projects are being hosted at Nausicaá.
And for 2021? Our goal:
to support 15 projects

BETTER CONSUMING THE PRODUCE OF THE SEA WITH MR.GOODFISH

Today, we consume twice as much fish as we did 50 years ago, giving an average of 20.5 kg/year/person worldwide (FAO 2020). It is estimated that 34.2% of the global fish stock is overfished and 65.2% of the stock is fully or under-fished (FAO 2020). Since 2010, Nausicaá has been running the Mr.Goodfish programme with a simple goal: to help everyone consume responsibly by publishing a list of recommended species each season.

If everyone in France consumed a species recommended by Mr.Goodfish just once a year, 20,000 tonnes of endangered species could be safeguarded. So, it’s worth giving it a try, isn’t it?
